Description
Legal documents, 1846-1848, relating to the case of John C. Dunford (cooper) vs. Samuel Jeffery, master of the whaleship BROOKLYN, from New London, Connecticut. This case was initiated by Dunford, who alleged that Capt. Jeffery struck him and threatened to kill him during an altercation aboard the BROOKLYN on 8 August 1845. Documents are primarily depositions and testimony by crew members, including the cook, cabin boy, and 2nd mate Asa Fish. These testimonies were given after the vessel returned to New London in April 1848.
