Journal, 1845-1846, kept by Horatio Tilton on board the brig VESTA of Edgartown, Massachusetts, Edward Mayhew, master, for a voyage to the Atlantic Ocean whaling grounds. Contains whale stamps, ship stamps, mentions death at sea and injury at sea, describes shipboard life including cases of crew refusing duty, abusive language, fighting and punishment. Made 7 ports-of-call and spoke 30 vessels.
